Instagram: DM directly from your feed!

New Delhi: Instagram is providing new options to its users on its platform. The most useful and the latest option include directly replying to a DM directly from your feed without opening your inbox. One of the new option include sending song previews and conducting polls in group chats.

Adam Mosseri, the platform’s head, explained why Instagram is focusing on message updates this year in a video posted back in December, 2021.  Mosseri said, “Messaging is one of the primary ways that people — actually it is the primary way people connect online at this point.”

“Instagram needs to embrace the fact that messaging is that primary form of communication,” he added.

The song previews feature is all set to offer short 30-second clips of tracks. There’s also a new menu accessible from the main Instagram feed with a long-press of the share button that let users quickly reshare a post to four of your friends.

In other Instagram features DMs in line with what’s already offered in Facebook Messenger, which should not come as too much of a surprise given the company’s work to make these two chat platforms cross-compatible. Instagram adds a similar row of profile pictures at the top of its inbox to display which of your contacts are currently online, and it’s inheriting Messenger’s polls feature too.

Messenger’s new shortcut for quietly sending messages without generating notifications for your contacts is also coming to Instagram in the form of a new @silent command.

Instagram claims most of the feature to be globally available, and that its music sharing is rolling out from today. However, Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai has stated that in Europe the platform is not able to offer features like @silent, polls, or show who’s active at the top of your inbox, due to laws in the region.
