Dubai: In the first match of the day, Ireland’s Group A team defeated the second team of the same group, Netherlands, by 7 wickets in 15.3 overs. Ireland opened their account in the T20 World Cup qualifiers with this comfortable win against the Netherlands.

Netherlands had won the toss and elected to bat, trying to set a fairly difficult target for their opponent, which was not possible as the island nation’s star player Curtis Camper threw the spell of his life.

He became the third bowler to perform this magic trick in T20Is behind the Netherlands falling for 4 wickets in four consecutive balls.

He became the man of the match. “To be honest, I didn’t feel the best to come back from injury, try to knock the wicket down and hit hard lengths, the first over didn’t go as planned but the captain had faith in me and it went well Worked”, – he said in a post-match statement.

Netherlands did not start well after losing to Ben Cooper in the first over of the match. The other opener for the country, Max O’Dowd, played a responsible innings and went on to score a half-century before he was knocked out by Mark Adair, who took two wickets for the losing side. Seelar scored 21, van Beek and Ackermann scored 11-11, and the rest could not move the bat to score runs for the scoreboard. The team’s collective score was 106 runs after 20 overs.

Ireland chased down the score comfortably for the loss of 3 wickets. Gareth Delany was less than 6 runs from a half-century where Paul String made 33 off 39 balls.

It was a one-sided match which Ireland won with 29 balls to spare. Now the other qualifier between Sri Lanka and Nambia has started at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka decided to bowl and by the end of 8 overs, Nambia lost 2 wickets for 46 runs.
