According to information given by the Defense Public Relations Officer, Srinagar, the helicopter crashed before the ailing soldier could be evacuated. “The helicopter lost communication contact with the forward post at Gujran, Baraub. A search operation was immediately launched by the Indian Army with search and rescue helicopters, which were pressed into service. The pilot and co-pilot of the helicopter were seriously injured in the accident and were immediately rushed to the command hospital in Udhampur. Co-pilot Major Sankalp Yadav (29) succumbed to his injuries at 92 Base Hospital.

Major Yadav was commissioned in 2015 and hailed from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He is survived by his father. The injured pilot is in a critical condition, but his condition is stable and is currently in the ICU of 92 Base Hospital.
