Justice UU Lalit was appointed as the new Chief Justice of India


New Delhi: Justice UU Lalit will be the new Chief Justice (CJI) of the country. His name was officially announced as CJI on Wednesday. Lalit will be the 49th CJI of the country. Let us tell you that a few days ago, Chief Justice NV Ramana had recommended the name of Justice UU Lalit to the Ministry of Law for the next President of the country.

Earlier, the Law Minister had written a letter to CJI Ramana asking who is his successor. CJI Ramana to retire on August 26. Justice Lalit will be sworn in as the 49th CJI on August 27. His mandate will be only 74 days.

As CJI, Justice Lalit will head the bench, which will include Justice Chandrachud, Justice Kaul, Justice Nazir and Justice Indira Banerjee.

With the retirement of Justice Banerjee on September 23, Justice KM Joseph will join the bar. Justice Lalit will retire as CJI on November 8. After that, Justice Chandrachud will be appointed as the 50th CJI.
