Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will meet the businessman’s family during his visit to Kanpur on Thursday. The CM also expressed condolences by talking to Meenakshi Gupta, the wife of the deceased on Tuesday night, while the state government announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the family.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the UP police is “soft” on criminals and “brutal” with common people.
In a tweet, the Congress leader said, “Under this government the state of jungle law is such that police is soft on criminals and treats common people barbarously.”
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “The state government should give justice to every victim’s family and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.”
BSP supremo Mayawati also alleged that the incident exposed negligence on law and order. “Very shameful and shameful action against three businessmen during raids at a hotel in CM’s home district,” he said in a tweet.
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said the incident was a result of the “encounter culture” of the state government. “Those involved should face trial and those who pushed the state on the path of violence should resign,” he said in a tweet.
A Kanpur businessman died after an alleged attack by policemen during a raid at a hotel in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. Four serious injury marks were found on his body – right hand, wrist, middle of the head and on the eyelid.
A case of murder has been registered against six policemen in this case. Gorakhpur DM Vijay Kiran Anand said that the policemen arrested on the charge of murder include JN Singh, Sub-Inspector Vijay Yadav and Phalmandi police station in-charge Akshay Mishra. On Tuesday, the officials suspended the policemen, including the Ramgarhtal SHO, and handed over the investigation to the Superintendent of Police.
