New Delhi: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have once again opened for tourists from Friday.

State Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and PCCF (Wildlife) Amit Sahai participated in the inaugural function held today. “A momentous occasion for the forests of Assam and the prosperous tourism platform of Assam as we open the majestic Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve today for nature lovers and tourists for the year 2021-22. My honorable cabinet colleague Mr. Atul Bora, Senior Forest Officers and other dignitaries attended today’s occasion,” State Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya tweeted.

As of now, only two ranges – Kohora and Bagori – are being reopened for jeep safaris, while Agoratoli and Burhapur ranges and elephant safaris will be reopened later.

The park was closed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent monsoon season.

Last month, 13 animal casualties were reported from drowning in the national park following incessant rains in the region. The rains have also caused bad road conditions in the national park which is hampering the commencement of the famous safaris in the park.
