Kerala Minister for Culture Saji Cherian pays tribute to KPAC Lalitha

new Delhi: The news of the demise of renowned Malayalam film and stage actor KPAC Lalitha has undoubtedly left a void in the entertainment industry.

Several personalities and ministers of the Kerala government have expressed grief over the demise of the veteran star, who passed away at the age of 74 at a hospital in Kochi on Tuesday. Kerala Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian also paid tribute to the late National Award winning actor on behalf of the state government.

“She is a great actress who has beautifully showcased her talent. As a fellow Left traveler, she got to know the social life of Kerala. As part of honoring her, the government first gave her the Kerala Sangeeta. She was appointed as the first woman president of the Natak Akademi,” he said.

Cherian also said that the death of the Amaram actor is a great loss to the people of Kerala and the film industry. “She remembers all her unique contributions to Malayalam cinema. It is also a great loss to Left politics. I have now paid floral tributes on behalf of the Chief Minister. I offer my condolences on behalf of the State Government and the Department of Culture , ” she added.

Earlier in the day, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also condoled Lalitha’s demise. The Chief Minister of Kerala recalled her contribution as the President of Kerala Lalita Sangeet Natak Akademi and said that she has always been associated with the progressive movement.

Celebrities including Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Keerthy Suresh and others had expressed their condolences on social media.

In a career spanning five decades, the late actor acted in over 550 films in Malayalam and Tamil. She has won two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress along with four Kerala State Film Awards. He received the National Award for his role in ‘Amaram’ in 1999 and for ‘Shantam’ in 2000.

His last rites will be performed on Wednesday evening at Vadakkanchery in Thrissur district.
