“Navalny committed fraud, i.e. the theft of someone else’s property by deception,” Judge Margarita Kotova read out in the verdict.
According to a report by Reuters, Russian prosecutors have been seeking to move Navalny to a maximum security penal colony for 13 years on charges of fraud and contempt of court.
Notably, Navalny is already serving a two-and-a-half year sentence at a prison camp east of Moscow for parole violations related to charges he stated were slapped on him to thwart his political ambitions.
Navalny was charged with for recovering in Germany after surviving a poisoning attempt by Russia’s security forces in 2020.
