Addressing the media soon after his second meeting of the state cabinet in Chandigarh, CM Channi said, “Whoever is the party president, he is the head of the family. I had called him (Navjot Singh Sidhu) and told him that party is paramount… I have spoken to him over phone and told him let’s sit, talk and resolve this issue.”
Earlier today, Sidhu took a veiled dig at the new Punjab government, saying it cannot compromise with its morality, moral authority and added that he “does not want to repeat a system of tainted leaders and officials in the state”. Channi also told about the decisions taken in the Punjab cabinet meeting held today in the press conference and told that the Punjab government will pay the electricity bills of 53 lakh families who do not do so. The Chief Minister said that he has been regularly visiting the villages of Punjab and electricity is a big issue. “Due to non-payment of exorbitant bills, meters of many households were disconnected. 75-80 per cent of the consumers fall under the 2 kW category… Their final bill, will be taken care of by us. Disconnected electricity connections re-established will be done,” he said.
Channi also promised that soon the problem of ‘sand mafia’ from Punjab would be ‘ended’. “We are working day and night on how to improve the system. We have to break the alliance. I am bringing a new policy for this.
