Light to moderate rain in these states


New Delhi: Light to moderate rain fell over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, East Gujarat, parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours to the Skymet weather report.

Skymet weather predicted the western fault to persist as a trough over the headwaters. Cyclone circulation continues over northeast Rajasthan and adjacent areas. A cyclone circulation is over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent Sri Lanka region. A trough stretches from the Northeast Arabian Sea through Gujarat to Northeast Rajasthan. The Uttar Pradesh government closed schools in Lucknow, Noida, Agra, Ghaziabad and Kanpur on Monday from grades 1 to 12 due to excessive rain.

In UP, IMD has issued a red alert for seven districts/cities – Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao, Lucknow, Fatehpur, Hamirpur and Raebareli. There has been heavy rainfall in these regions in recent days.

Kanpur Dehat ADM Jagadamba Prasad Gupta said Sunday that two people and more than eight animals were killed by lightning strikes in the district the previous day.

The weather bureau has also predicted heavy rainfall in the southern states. Heavy rains are expected over the next 5 days over Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema and over the next 24 hours over the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
