Los Angeles: Madonna’s career is unmatched to many, but there is one job she wishes she would never turn down. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday’s episode of “The Tonight Show,” the 63-year-old pop star revealed that he declined a role in “The Matrix,” People magazine reports. “Will you believe this?” He told Fallon.

Madonna said, “It’s one of the best movies ever. A tiny part of me regrets that one moment in my life.”

Released in 1999, ‘The Matrix’ follows a hacker named Neo (Keanu Reeves) who becomes trapped inside a fake reality. According to Box Office Mojo, the sci-fi film grossed US$171.5 million domestically and US$466.3 million globally and earned dozens of awards.

Madonna confirms she missed out on playing Catwoman in “Batman Returns” and a major role in “Showgirls,” although she only regrets the former. “I saw them both and I’m sorry I turned Catwoman down, it was so awful,” the Grammy-winner confessed. “Showgirls? No.”

Currently, Madonna is back in the director’s chair for a film about her life. The artist has directed two other films: ‘Gandgi Aur Buddhi’ (2008) and ‘W.E’. (2011).

The studio had previously attempted to make films about Madonna’s life, but none of them met her standards. One film, she told Fallon, “was the most disgusting, superficial nonsense I’ve ever read.”

“I’m thinking, ‘Why would these people want to make a film on my life?’ Nothing in the script is true,” he explained, adding that a director behind one of the proposed films had “no appreciation for women.”

In September 2020, Madonna announced that she would be producing her own film about her life. “I said, ‘There is no one on this planet who can write or direct’ [or] Make a better film about me than me.’ It’s just the truth,” the pop star told Fallon on Thursday.

A name and release date are yet to be announced.
