Mallikarjun Kharge submits presidential candidacy

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge will submit his nomination for the party’s presidential election today. Mr Kharge, the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, will today submit his nomination for the October 17 general election as the third candidate alongside Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor, sources said.

Digvijay Singh & Shashi Tharoor will compete

Shashi Tharoor and Digvijay Singh are also expected to submit their nominations today, the final day of bids for what appears to be a three-way battle. The application deadline for the competition is 3 p.m.

Former CM of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh said Thursday that he will run for President. Digvijay reached the Congress Bureau in Delhi. On Thursday, he said: “I came here to collect the nomination form and will submit my nomination tomorrow.”

Ashok Gehlot refuses to enter the competition

Previously, Ashok Gehlot announced that he would step down as CM to run for the chief post.

CM Gehlot added that he had decided to challenge Congress’ key polls after Rahul Gandhi declined to accept the post. However, he changed his mind following the mass resignation of the MLAs.

More than 80 MLAs, loyalists to Gehlot, had submitted their resignations to convention speaker CP Joshi at his residence.

They all protested against Sachin Pilot’s candidacy for CM.
