Mamata Banerjee is under BJP’s scanner despite apology

Calcutta: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda on Saturday took aim at Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the West Bengal government will “continue to harass the Adivasi communities”.

The Union minister said, “The CM of West Bengal is a woman and a minister in her cabinet has made a hateful comment on our tribal president. This also affects our international identity… It clearly reflects that the govt of the WB will continue to harass the Adivasi communities.”

Munda demanded that the chief minister sack the accused TMC leader from the cabinet and “apologise to the nation”. He sought clarification from Mamata Banerjee.

The accused TMC leader, while addressing a public rally in Nandigram, said, “We don’t judge anyone by their looks, we respect the office of the President (of India). But what does our President look like?” ”

However, Akhil Giri has already apologized today saying that he regrets what he said if he feels it was an insult to the President.

“I said ‘President’, I didn’t take anyone’s name. If the President of India feels insulted, I am sorry and regret what I said,” West Bengal minister Akhil Giri added.

The TMC leader said his comments were in response to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal unit chief Suvendhu Adhikari.

Giri said he was insulted by Adhikhari for the former’s appearance, which is also an “insult” to the “Constitution”.
