Man beaten to death as he allegedly attempted to sacrilege at Amritsar’s Golden Temple


Amritsar: A man was thrashed to death by agitating devotees after they allegedly tried to desecrate the holy book (Guru Granth Sahib) with a sword at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Saturday.

“Today, a 24–25-year-old man barged inside the Golden Temple, where the holy scripture (Guru Granth Sahib) is kept. He tried to desecrate it with a sword and was pulled out by the Sangat. Later a brawl ensued. I died in him.” Parminder Singh Bhandal, who is the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Amritsar city.

The incident took place during the evening prayers when the man jumped off the metal railing around the Guru Granth Sahib and tried to desecrate the holy book of the Sikhs.

However, the young man died in the dispute. The body was later taken to the civil hospital where the authorities declared it brought dead.

Further investigation is going on in the matter.
