Manipur was known for corruption and blockades under Congress rule, BJP has ushered peace, development: Amit Shah

Churachandpur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday criticized the previous Congress governments in Manipur and said the state was known for “corruption and blockade” during their rule, while it is witnessing peace and development under the BJP government.

“During Congress rule, be it the hills or the plains, Manipur was known for corruption, militancy, infiltration, blockade, drugs, weapons, smuggling. Today, under BJP rule, Manipur is known for development, connectivity, infrastructure , sports, industry and health facilities. Biren Singh has made successful efforts to make it a self-reliant Manipur,” Shah said at a rally here. “We had sought an opportunity to form the government in Manipur and said that we would free the state from blockade and ‘bandh’. Chief Minister N Biren Singh has changed the state’s path from blockade and bandh to peace and development,” he added.

Amit Shah said that Biren Singh has been a football player and “knows how to hit a target and save a target”.

“The Chief Minister stopped the anti-Manipur people who tried to target corruption, bandh and violence in the state. And the Chief Minister also scored goals in the matter of connectivity, development and peace in the state,” he said.
The Home Minister said that 9,500 youths associated with terrorist organizations have surrendered in the northeastern states.

“In all, in the Northeast states, more than 9,500 youth who had links with terrorist organizations have surrendered and joined the mainstream. We want to bring back all the youth of the Northeast to the mainstream. We are with all the insurgent groups. Will discuss and bring peace in the state.”

Manipur will go to polls in two phases on February 28 and March 5.
