New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday launched the “National Action Plan for Elimination of Dog-mediated Rabies from India by 2030” and said that we have to win the fight against rabies by 2030.

During the launch event of the National Action Plan for Dog-mediated Rabies Elimination from India by 2030, Mandaviya said that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is also working on reducing the cost of rabies vaccines. “We have to win the fight against rabies by 2030. It should be a comprehensive effort of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, we should also include the Ministry of AYUSH. When we talk of “One Health”, its impact on the whole fauna and environment as well,” the health minister said.

Mandaviya said, “Today as people move from one place to another, the virus also goes with them. Many diseases have increased, many diseases have decreased, if the health ministry tries, the result will not come, we will have to do it. Try it together.”

He further said that we are moving towards eliminating Tuberculosis (TB) as an ecosystem has been created to eliminate it. Similarly for rabies we have to campaign aggressively.

Dr Bharti Praveen Pawar, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Purushottam Rupala were also present during the launch event. (ANI)
