Mirabai Chanu ‘worthy’ of Thor’s hammer: Chris Hemsworth


Birmingham: Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth congratulated Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu in a very unique way. Popular for his design of the Norse god of thunder, Thor, he dedicated his hammer to India’s Commonwealth Games 202 champion in a Twitter post.

Chanu won gold in the 49kg category after lifting 88kg in Snatch and 113kg in the Clean & Jerk round. Chanu set a Commonwealth Games record with a total lift of 201kg and won India’s first gold medal in 2022.

Following her win, a fan posted a photo of Mirabai Chanu holding the MCU character’s hammer. The caption read: “Time for Thor to drop Chris Hemsworth’s hammer.”

The Hollywood star was tagged in the post, and she responded to the photo by saying, “Worthy. Congratulations Saikhom, you are a legend.

The 27-year-old Indian girl retweeted the photo on Twitter.

Mjølnir is a powerful enchanted warhammer forged by the Giant Smurfs for the Royal Family of Asgard and used by Odin before passing it on to Hela and then Thor. Odin cursed the hammer with a spell that read: “He who holds this hammer, if he is worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”
