MSP payments of over Rs 5,000 cr made directly to farmers’ accounts in a single day: Kataruchak

Chandigarh: Due to the commitment taken by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, he directed the state government to the farmers for hassle-free procurement, Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies Food Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Sunday the payment of Rs. 5334.54 crore was released directly into the accounts of nearly 1,84,409 farmers in a single day on Saturday, during the ongoing Paddy buying season in the State.

Besides this, another Rs 1,500 crore has been approved for payment and would be released once banks open on Monday. He also disclosed that 144 LMT paddies have already been purchased during the season till yesterday.

Further giving details of MSP payments, he said that total MSP payments of Rs 25424.86 Crores have been released directly into farmers’ bank accounts till yesterday, and nearly 6.5 lakh farmers have benefited from MSP Bye now. He reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government to buy every grain produced with the sweat and labor of the farmer.

Food and Civil Supplies Principal Secretary Rahul Bhandari said that with the approval of CCL for November, MSP payments have continued to be made smoothly. He also added that almost all the paddy fields have been acquired and raised in Majha belt and most of the arrivals are now being observed in Malwa belt. More than 98% of the paddy fields procured before 72 hours have already been raised according to reports received from the districts.
