Mulayam Singh Yadav’s last rites in his native village Saifai


New Delhi: Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, who died during treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on Monday (October 10), was cremated on Tuesday in his native village Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.

Leaders of all parties attended the funeral of the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and NCP chief Sharad Pawar are among the prominent leaders attending the ceremony.

Senior Congress leaders Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu also attended the funeral.

The body of SP Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav reached his hometown in Saifai village of Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday evening (October 10).

SP President Akhilesh Yadav, former MP Dharmendra Yadav and other family members were present when the body was taken out of the ambulance.

After the body was laid for the last darshan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended and paid tribute to him.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on 22 August after he complained of breathlessness. He was already battling several ailments and was admitted to the ICU in a critical condition.

The news of Mulayam’s death was confirmed by his son Akhilesh Yadav at around 8.30 am on Monday.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday also announced a three-day state mourning on the death of the veteran politician.

He was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai village of Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. The SP founder has been the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1967.
