Mumbai Police looking for Dawood Ibrahim's aide in extortion case


Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]Oct 16 (ANI): The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police on Friday informed that it is now on the lookout for Riyaz Bhati, an aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, named in an extortion case against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. registered in the FIR.

“Riyaz Bhati’s name is also in the same FIR registered against Parambir Singh in an extortion case. But Bhati has disappeared as the crime branch has called him for questioning,” police said.

Police further said that Bhati had filed an anticipatory bail application in September this year which was rejected by the sessions court. “Dismissing the petition, the court observed that custodial interrogation is necessary in this case,” the police said.

Police allege that Bhati used to extort money from bar and restaurant owners and send it to suspended Mumbai police officer Sachin Waje.

Earlier on October 9, the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police had sent an inquiry notice to former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in a case of extortion.

Mumbai Police said, “An inquiry notice has been sent to Parambir Singh to appear before the police on October 12.”

The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police issued a notice at Parambir Singh’s residence in Mumbai and a team has also gone to Haryana to serve him notice at his residence in Haryana.

On 23 July, a case of extortion was registered against Parambir Singh, Sachin Waje and others at the Goregaon police station, the investigation of which was handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch.

This was the second case of extortion in which Parambir Singh’s name has been taken.

The Enforcement Directorate had earlier summoned the former Mumbai Police Commissioner to record statement against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a Rs 100 crore money laundering case. (ANI)
