“No one from the Gandhi family competes”: Ashok Gehlot


New Delhi: Speaking to reporters, Ashok Gehlot answered various questions that are being raised after Gehlot had agreed to step down as Rajasthan CM.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday confirmed his candidature for the upcoming Congress presidential election, saying Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that “no member of the Gandhi family” will contest for the post of Congress president. After announcing that Congress would contest the presidential election, CM Ashok Gehlot said that I will field a candidate for the post of president, top leadership order is paramount for me.

Gehlot reached Kochi to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra

Gehlot arrived in Kerala to participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Here he told the media, “I had said earlier that I would ask him (Rahul Gandhi) to accept this post after all the Congress committees pass a resolution on the matter. Phew. He clarified that no one from the Gandhi family would become the next chief. He said that Rahul Gandhi is made this decision for some reasons.

The situation has become clearer after Ashok Gehlot’s meeting with Rahul Gandhi in Kochi. Following this, Ashok Gehlot has made an official announcement to contest the Congress presidential election in Kochi. Gehlot took this decision after talking to Rahul.

During this, he also said that “no one from the Gandhi family will become Congress president this time”. Responding to questions from the media, Gehlot said, “I tried to talk to Rahul Gandhi many times to make him the president. But he refused to do so and said that this time no member of the Gandhi family is contesting for the post of Congress president.
