New Delhi: The Delhi government on Saturday reported its second case of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron.
A person who returned from Zimbabwe, who has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, tested positive for the variant in the genome sequencing report.
According to the Delhi government, the travel history of the patient revealed that the person had also gone to South Africa. A new variant of COVID-19 was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) from South Africa on 25 November. According to WHO, the first known B.18.104.22.1689 infection was from a sample collected on November 9 this year. ,
On 26 November, WHO named the new COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529, which has been detected in South Africa as ‘Omicron’. The WHO has classified Omicron as having a ‘type of concern’. (ANI)
