Over 40,000 women disappeared within 5 yrs in Gujarat: NCRB

New Delhi: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has informed that more than 70,000 women have gone missing in Gujarat within 5 years.

According to the data, 7,105 women disappeared in 2016, 7,712 in 2017, 9,246 in 2018, and 9,268 in 2019. Meanwhile, a total of 8,290 disappeared in 2020. the New Indian Express.

The Assembly state government stated in 2021 that 4,722 women had gone missing in Ahmedabad and Vadodara between 2019 and 2020.

“Women forced into prostitution”

The report also quotes Sudhir Sinha, a former IPS officer and member of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission, as saying that he observed that most of the missing girls were sent to other states and forced into prostitution.

Sinha further mentioned that the police do not take the case as seriously as murder crimes. He pointed out that missing complaints are often ignored because they are investigated as in the British era.
