Pakistan captain Babar Azam accepts Asia Cup 2022 defeat

Dubai: Pakistan came very close to winning the Asia Cup 2022 trophy but poor batting performance on D-Day pushed back Sapna’s victory. Sri Lanka won the final by 23 runs and captured their sixth trophy.

After deciding to bowl first, Pakistan could not stop the opponents and they got a target of 171 runs. The hosts also didn’t start the game well as they lost a wicket on the third ball (Kusal Mendis) but B Rajapaska kept her side with an unbeaten 71. He was supported by Dhananjay D Dilwa (28) and W Hasaranga (36).

Babar Azam made a mistake on the batsmen

After losing the final of the tournament, Pakistan captain Babar Azam had said that the batsmen were not performing well. “Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing excellent cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing. It was a true wicket and it is always good to play in Dubai,” he said after the game.

We didn’t bat according to our ability. We started well but gave 15-20 extra runs and couldn’t finish well. So many positives for us to take in. There is less chance of mistakes in the final. Our fielding was not good and the batting also could not finish it well.

“But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positive. There will be ups and downs, but it would be better if we make fewer mistakes,” he concluded.
