New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has got himself a set of new wheels. The Indian PM inducts the Mercedes-Maybach S650 armored vehicle into his convoy. The cost of this car is Rs 12 crore.
For those unaware, PM Modi already owns a Range Rover Vogue and Toyota Land Cruiser.
The security details, including the prime minister’s cars, are decided by the Special Protection Group (SPG). The SPG orders two identical cars and the second vehicle is used as an inducement.
The armored Mercedes-Maybach S650 was recently spotted at Hyderabad House in New Delhi when the Prime Minister arrived to welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin. The S650 Guard comes with VR10-level protection.
As per reports, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard offers the highest level of armored protection in any car and thanks to the advanced windows and body shell can withstand bullet shots that can attack even an AK-47 rifle.
Reports also state that the car windows have a polycarbonate coating that can withstand toughened steel core bullets as well. The Maybach also carries an Explosive Resistant Vehicle (ERV) 2010 rating which protects passengers from a 15kg TNT explosion from a distance of just 2 metres.
The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 516bhp and around 900Nm of peak torque. It can reach a maximum speed of 160 kmph.
The car also gets a separate air supply in case of a gas attack and its fuel tank is coated with a special material that automatically seals the holes after the hit.
