Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dedicated 35 crop varieties with special traits to the nation in an effort to create public awareness for adopting climate-resilient technologies.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dedicated 35 crop varieties with special traits to the nation in an effort to create public awareness for adopting climate-resilient technologies.


The crop varieties have been launched by the Prime Minister in an all India event organized at all Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutes, State and Central Agricultural Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). During the program, PM Modi dedicated the newly constructed campus of National Institute of Biotic Stress Tolerance to the nation in Raipur.


On the occasion, the Prime Minister also distributed Green Campus Awards to Agricultural Universities, interacted with farmers who use innovative methods and addressed the gathering.


Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel were present in the program.


Crop varieties with specific traits have been developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to address the twin challenges of climate change and malnutrition. Thirty-five such crop varieties have been developed in the year 2021, which have special characteristics like climate resilience and high nutrient content.


National Institute of Biological Stress Management has been established at Raipur to conduct basic and strategic research in biological stress, develop human resources and provide policy support. The institute has started PG courses from the academic session 2020-21.


The Green Campus Awards have been instituted to motivate the State and Central Agricultural Universities to develop or adopt practices that will make their campuses more green and clean, and to encourage the students to use ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, ‘West To join the Two Wealth Mission. and community engagement as per National Education Policy-2020.
