His noble principles are globally relevant. and give strength to millions,” tweeted Prime Minister Modi. Born on October 2, 1869 in the city of Porbandar, Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi adopted a non-violent resistance and freedom against colonial British rule with utmost patience. He was in the forefront of the struggle.

This prompted India to finally achieve its independence in 1947. Known as Bapu, his unwavering belief in ‘Swaraj’ (self-rule) and ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence) earned him worldwide acclaim.

Globally, Gandhi’s birth anniversary is celebrated as the International Day of Nonviolence. Several events were organized in India and across the world to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, PM Modi also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted, “Tributes to former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri ji on his birth anniversary. His life based on values ​​and principles will always be a source of inspiration for the countrymen.” Shastri was born on 2 October 1904 in Mughalsarai district of Uttar Pradesh. He shared his birthday with Mahatma Gandhi. Shastri became the Prime Minister of India in 1964 and led the country during the Indo-Pakistani War in 1965.
