‘Police Commemoration Day’ is observed every year in the memory of ten brave Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers who were killed in the line of patrol duty by heavily armed Chinese soldiers at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.

“Police force is a quintessential example of culmination of courage, restraint and diligence. On ‘Police Commemoration Day’, on behalf of the nation, I salute all the brave soldiers who made their supreme sacrifice to protect the sovereignty of the country. The sacrifice and dedication of the policeman inspires us to serve the nation,” tweeted Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, Minister of State (MoS) for Home Nityanand Rai and senior officers of various central and state police forces paid tributes at the National Police Memorial in the national capital on Police Commemoration Day 2021.

To honor the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty for the cause of national security, the idea of ​​setting up a National Police Memorial in Delhi was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1992. The memorial gives a sense of national identity, pride, unity of purpose, common history and destiny to the police forces. The monument consists of a central sculpture, a wall of valor and an underground museum.

Last year, 377 personnel of the state police forces as well as the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) lost their lives in the line of duty. He made the supreme sacrifice in Jammu and Kashmir by collaborating with Pakistan-backed extremists, armed insurgents and Naxal groups in hinterland as well as armed criminals and maintaining public order.

The years 2020 and 2021 have been unforeseen challenges. One such challenge was presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Police and CAPF personnel played an important and frontline role as COVID warriors regardless of their safety. As a result, 2,458 police and CAPF personnel succumbed to COVID-19 in the line of duty, while contributing to COVID management.

Since independence, 35,780 policemen have been martyred till August 31, 2021. On October 21, every police unit and every district of the country pays tribute to these policemen. At the national level, the ceremony is held at the National Police site. Memorial in Delhi. (ANI)
