President Droupadi Murmu attends the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19


New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will visit London September 17-19 to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday and offer his condolences on behalf of the Indian government, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Queen Elizabeth II, the former Head of State of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth of Nations, died on September 8th at the age of 96.

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent their condolences after the death of Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on September 12, 2022 to offer his condolences to India. India observed a day of national mourning on September 11th.

“During the 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, relations between India and the United Kingdom have developed, flourished and consolidated tremendously. As Head of the Commonwealth, she played an important role in the well-being of millions of people around the world,” the statement said.

Queen the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-lived and longest-reigning monarch, died on September 8. She was 96 years old. Her reign as Queen of England lasted over 70 years.

The Queen’s State Funeral will take place on Monday 19 September at Westminster Abbey.
