Presidential election 2022: Shah, Yogi and others welcome NDA’s selection of Draupadi Murmu as its presidential candidate

New Delhi: Soon after Draupadi Murmu was nominated as the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate, Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took to his official Twitter account and wrote a series of congratulatory tweets for the former Jharkhand governor.

“Draupadi Murmu ji has made a special identity in the public life by spreading awareness about education in the tribal society and by serving the public as a public representative for a long time. I wish her all the best on becoming a candidate for this honorable post and I am sure she will definitely win.” Shah said.

Apart from Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also welcomed the name of Draupadi Murmu as the presidential candidate and congratulated her. Yogi wrote on Twitter, “Draupadi Murmu ji has created a special identity in public life by spreading awareness about education in tribal society and by serving the public as a public representative for a long time. I wish her all the best for being a candidate.” Am. For this honorable post and I am sure she will definitely win it.”

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also extended his support to Murmu’s candidature and said that his candidature is “truly a proud moment for the people of Odisha.”

The BJP-led NDA on Tuesday announced the name of former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu as its presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.

On the other hand, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today announced that former Finance and External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha will be the common candidate of the opposition parties for the presidential election to be held on July 18, 2022.

Murmu is the first major tribal woman presidential candidate in the history of India. Once elected, she will be India’s first tribal president and second woman president.

She is the first major presidential candidate from Odisha and once elected will become the country’s first President from the state of Odisha.
