New Delhi: Golden girl PT Usha heaps praise on golden boy Neeraj Chopra, who created history by winning gold in Tokyo Olympics. Neeraj turned 24 on Christmas Eve and that’s when the track legend shared his thoughts for Chopra.
“Neeraj Chopra’s victory has paved the way for a new chapter in the history of Indian sports. This achievement has certainly boosted the morale of our country and generated more interest and brought attention to the field of athletics. Over the years In the U.S., other sports have come into the limelight in the Olympics, and it’s great to see athletics come to the fore once again,” PT Usha told ANI.
He also urged people to appreciate Neeraj for motivating the youth by winning gold medal in men’s javelin throw event at Tokyo Olympics. He became only the second Indian individual gold medalist after Abhinav Bindra.
“We need to applaud Neeraj for implementing the desire of ‘We Can’ amongst the youth of India to achieve a stupendous victory in the Olympics and inspire young athletes to work towards their goals and dreams. The victory has certainly ignited hope among the people.” PT Usha emphasized.
According to the 57-year-old Olympian who nurtured talent at the Usha School of Athletics in Balusree (Kerala), the performance of Indian athletes in the Tokyo Olympics has undoubtedly set a benchmark for others.
“The performance of our Indian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics has certainly ignited a new passion for athletics. It was heartening to see them perform like this and if they can learn from their mistakes and improve their performance further. If we can, then we can set as a nation. A benchmark for others. As athletes, we must strive for consistency in our performance and determination to achieve our goals. As athletes Focus should be an important factor in the work we do.”
