Punjab Election 2022: BJP releases first list of 34 candidates; fields 12 from farmers’ families

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released the first list of 34 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab.

Tarun said, “Twelve candidates from farmer families have been given tickets, eight tickets have been given to members of the SC community, 13 tickets have been given to Sikhs. The list includes doctors, lawyers, sportsmen, farmers, youth, women and former IAS. ” Chugh, National General Secretary of BJP.

According to reports, BJP is expected to contest on 65 assembly seats. The BJP is contesting the elections in alliance with the Punjab Lok Congress led by Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (United).

The BJP has fielded Arvind Khanna from Sangrur, Manoranjan Kalia from Jalandhar Central and Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi from Ferozepur city.

In the 2017 assembly elections in the state, the Congress secured an absolute majority by winning 77 seats and ousted the SAD-BJP government after 10 years. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has emerged as the second largest party by winning 20 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) managed to win only 15 seats, while the BJP got three.
