Punjab: Mob kills man for disrupting prayers, barging fence & attempting to commit sacrilege at Golden Temple, Amritsar

New Delhi: A man was lynched at the Golden Temple in Punjab’s Amritsar by a mob when he attempted to sabotage it inside the sanctum sanctorum of the holy shrine on Saturday evening.

According to reports, at around 5:45 pm when the Rehras Path (regular evening prayer) was going on, the man jumped over the metal fence around the place and entered the restricted area, where the ‘Sri Guru Granth Sahib’ light’ has been placed. He then chose the Sikh religious symbol, the golden sword or kirpan, which is usually placed in front of the ‘sarup’ of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

For those unaware, Sri Guru Granth Sahib is the holy book of the Sikhs.

The man was immediately apprehended by the security personnel present at the gurdwara and taken to a room located inside the premises. He was questioned by the members of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee. Angry devotees present at the religious place thrashed the man to death.

Police confirmed that the man had been beaten to death. a report by times of India Said that his body was not handed over to the police and he is lying in the civil hospital. The identity of the person is not yet known as he did not have any documents.

The entire incident went live on television as prayers are broadcast daily on a channel.

a report by News18 Told that the accused youth is said to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Amritsar Deputy Commissioner of Police Parminder Singh Bhandal said the man (the accused), aged around 20-25 years, had a yellow cloth tied on his head, after which the people inside immediately caught him and took him to the corridor, where Violent clashes ensued and he died.

Bhandal further said that the man was alone and more details would emerge after checking all the CCTV cameras installed inside. The postmortem will be done tomorrow (Sunday).

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh condemned the incident and asked the government to find out the reasons behind the person doing such an act.

Shironami Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal tweeted, “Heinous attempt at sacrilege at Sachkhand Shri Harmandar Sahib, very shocking and extremely painful! The crime is too condemnable for words and has caused ‘deep pain in the minds of the Sikh masses’. And has created resentment. All over the world.”

He further added, “It is unbelievable that such a painful and ruthless crime is committed by one person on the ‘Holyest Temple of Humanity’. The possibility of a deeper conspiracy cannot be ruled out! It needs to be probed, exposed and the culprits caught.” Needed. Exemplary punishment given.”

Significantly, this is the second such incident at the Golden Temple in the last two days. On Wednesday, SGPC employees handed over to a person named Ranbir Singh for allegedly throwing holy gutkha (a book of Gurbani) in the lake of Golden Temple.
