New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday offered condolences to the family of a Kanpur-based businessman who was allegedly lynched by police during a raid at a hotel in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur.
The Wayanad MP said on Twitter, “Very sad to see the painful video of Meenakshi Gupta ji. My condolences to the family of Manish Gupta ji. I am with you in this fight against the injustice of the BJP government. Will take justice. – This one Right, not favor!” Six policemen were suspended for their involvement in the incident in which Manish Gupta, a 38-year-old property dealer from Kanpur, died. The victim had gone to Gorakhpur with her friend for some work.
The District Magistrate of Kanpur also informed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hold a meeting with the family members of the victim during his visit to Kanpur today.
Meanwhile, police said the businessman’s family has been given an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh and the family has made three demands to the authorities – transfer of the case to Kanpur, Rs 50 lakh in compensation, and a government job.
The family of a Kanpur businessman has alleged that he was beaten to death by the police during a raid at the hotel.
Meenakshi Gupta, wife of Manish Gupta in Kanpur, said, “I will put my demands before the chief minister. My husband was murdered by six policemen on duty.” (ANI)
