Rain plays spoilsport, delays game

New Delhi: The start of the first ODI of the three-match series between India and South Africa at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here has been postponed by half an hour due to rain on Thursday 6th October 2022.

It has been raining in the city for the past few days. Heavy showers are expected throughout the day.

BCCI tweeted: “Rain delay! After an early inspection, the toss and match time for the #INDvSA Lucknow ODI has been pushed back by half an hour.”

The match will now start at 2:00 PM IST and the draw will take place at 1:30 PM instead of 1:00 PM.

The optional training of the Indian team was also canceled due to heavy rain on Wednesday.

Veteran Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan will lead Team India and Shreyas Iyer has been given the responsibilities of vice-captain.

On October 6th, 9th and 11th India will host South Africa for three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in Lucknow, Ranchi and Delhi respectively.

India last faced South Africa in an ODI series in January this year, losing all three games. The Men in Blue will now seek revenge for losing this series.

Although India are missing their star players, they are hoping to deliver in the ODI series. With the Men in Blue having already won the T20 series, Dhawan’s side have the players and class to record another series win in the ODI format. However, it won’t be a walk in the park as they will face a strong South African side.
