Rain, snow to continue on hills, plains


Weather Update: In India the winter season started showing its color in many parts of the country. According to the Indian Metrology Department (IMD), the country’s climate is changing rapidly. Snow falls in the highlands, it rains constantly in the southern states. Light cold has started in north and central India, but they are also worried about pollution in Delhi and neighboring areas.

In the mountainous areas there has been some light snowfall. The upper regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been receiving snowfall and light rain for the past three to four days due to the Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas. As a result, the temperature in these places is constantly dropping.

The plains of northern and central India are experiencing snowfall and rain, according to the Meteorological Department. Between November 8 and 9, these regions should experience cold weather. Many states of the nation including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana and Odisha may experience cold weather soon.

The cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal is also to blame for the last three to four days of non-stop rain. According to the Meteorological Department, it could bring northeast monsoon rain to several regions of the nation including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry and Karaikal today.

Weather activity in the next 24 hours:

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells is possible over south Tamil Nadu and south Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Light to moderate rains may occur over other parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala

Rain is possible over south interior Karnataka, coastal Karnataka and Rayalaseema.

There are chances of light to moderate rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad.

Isolated rain and snow is possible over Uttarakhand.

Today may bring light rain and snow to Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Himachal Pradesh, according to private weather forecasting organization Skymet Weather. Chance of rain is also present over several parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka.

Rain is possible at many places including Punjab, South Assam and Manipur. On the other hand, most locations in Delhi’s AQI rating are believed to be in the severe category.

Air quality index of Delhi and NCR will remain in very poor to poor category.
