New Delhi: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday congratulated the Indian Navy and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on the successful test-fire of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.
Rajnath Singh tweeted, “The Indian Naval Mission readiness has been confirmed today after the successful launch of the upgraded version of the BrahMos missile from INS Visakhapatnam today. I congratulate the Indian Navy, DRDO and the wonderful teamwork of the BrahMos missile ” “The advanced sea-to-sea version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was test-fired today from INS Visakhapatnam. The missile hit the designated target ship accurately,” a DRDO official said.
The missile is a joint venture between India and Russia where the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) represents the Indian side.
The missile was test fired from INS Visakhapatnam which is the latest warship of the recently inducted Indian Navy.
“The sea-to-sea version of the missile was tested at maximum range and hit the target ship with perfect accuracy,” Navy sources said.
BrahMos is the main weapon system of Indian Navy warships and is deployed on almost all its surface platforms.
An underwater version is also being developed which will not only be used by submarines of India, but will also be offered for export to friendly countries. (ANI)
