Riverdale actor Ryan Grantham sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing his mother


New Delhi: Riverdale actor Ryan Grantham and Diary of Wimpy Kid fame was sentenced to life in prison for shooting and killing his mother.

Justice Kathleen Kerr described the case as “horrifying and painful” in her sentencing at the B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver. She said victim impact statements, particularly from her sister, portray the “life-shattering” consequences of the murder.

Life imprisonment is mandatory for second degree murder. The duration of Grantham’s sentence was the subject of discussion during the sentencing hearings.

In delivering his verdict, Kerr recalled several disturbing circumstances that were made public during Grantham’s sentencing hearings in June last year.

Speaking about Grantham’s mental health issues, Kerr said she was having difficulties and watching violent footage on the dark web weeks before the actor pulled the trigger.

According to the CBC, Kerr said he was being treated in prison and showing improvement. The child actor’s lawyer, Chris Johnson, told CTV that the sentencing of Grantham did not come as a shock.

“I think he guessed what the judge gave him as punishment,” Johnson said. “I think she’s pretty apprehensive about the whole thing. She’s a pretty small person, and to go into the prison system, I’m sure it’s a difficult and scary thought for her.”
