Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: Trump blames ‘stupid’ US administration for Ukraine situation

Washington: Describing the current US administration as “dumb”, former President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he would not have allowed Ukraine’s situation to be resolved this way, Sputnik news agency reported.

Recalling his tenure as president at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, Trump said the world was a peaceful place because America was strong. Emphasizing that Russia “respected” the US under his administration, he called current President Joe Biden “weak and grossly incompetent” due to the current situation in Ukraine.

Sputnik quoted Trump as saying that Washington was considered “powerful, cunning and smart” then, but “now, we are a foolish country”.

The former US president said Russian President Vladimir Putin decided on special military operations in Ukraine because of America’s pitiful withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Calling Putin “smart”, he said NATO countries “are not that smart, they are seeing the opposite of smart.”

“The problem is not that Putin is smart, of course he is smart, but the real problem is that our leaders are dumb,” the news agency quoted Trump as saying. The former US president was quoted as saying that anti-Russian sanctions are weak because Moscow has shied away from such measures already imposed.

“Putin is playing Biden like a drum,” he said, adding that it wouldn’t have happened if he were president, because it would have been easier for him to “stop this ridicule.”

“The world hasn’t been so chaotic since World War II. I stand as the only president of the 21st century under whose watch Russia hasn’t invaded another country,” Sputnik quoted Trump as saying.

Notably, Putin on Monday recognized separate regions of Ukraine – Donetsk and Luhansk – as independent entities. Later, he ordered special military operations to “protect” the people in the Donbass region.

Several countries, including the UK, US, Canada and the European Union, have condemned Russia’s military operations and imposed sanctions on Moscow. (ANI)
