Russo-Ukraine war: Russian army intensifies attack on Kyiv, blows up TV tower

Kyiv: As the Russian military intensifies its offensive against Ukraine, it is attacking Ukrainian cities with increasing intensity, causing extreme damage to the civilian population.

Russian forces have surrounded the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv and intensified artillery and aerial bombardment of these urban centres.

On Tuesday, European media house Nexta released a picture on its Twitter handle that shows the Kyiv television tower being blown up by Russian bombings.

As the war between Russia and Ukraine entered its sixth day, Russian forces began besieging several Ukrainian cities, threatening a major attack.

Adviser to the President of Ukraine, Oleksiy Erestovich, said that Russian forces are trying to surround Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city.

Erestovich said during an address on Ukrainian television that Russian troops had bombed Kyiv, Kharkiv and the southern port city of Mariupol overnight.

According to new satellite images released by Maxar Technologies, the Russian military convoy has reached the outskirts of Kyiv and appears to be more than 40 miles (64 kilometers) long.

It said that it covered the entire stretch of road, near the Antonov airport, about 18 miles from the capital, to the city of Pribirsk – about 40 miles.

“Along some parts of the route, some vehicles are away, while in other sections, military equipment and units are traveling by two or three vehicles on the road,” Maxer said.

“Several houses and buildings are seen burning near the streets in the north and northwest of Ivankiv, where the convoy is traveling,” the statement said.

Maxar said its satellites also captured images of “additional ground forces deployments and ground attack helicopter units” in southern Belarus, less than 20 miles from the border with Ukraine.

Today is the sixth day of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Russia is still unwilling to back down from its military campaign against Ukraine, despite strong international criticism.

Russia is continuously bombing Ukrainian military bases and residential areas.

However, despite being no match for Russia’s military might, Ukraine is still doing its best to fight the Russian juggernaut.

As the Russian army enters major cities during the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, it is facing fierce resistance from the Ukrainian military in densely built urban areas.

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry claimed on Tuesday that the Russian advance on Kyiv has made little progress in the past 24 hours as the war in Ukraine continues.
