Moscow, Russia): The Russian ruble hit a record low against the US dollar amid Russia’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine, as discussions grow over possible sanctions against Russian energy.

Currently, one US dollar is currently trading at about 155 rubles, CNN reported.

Before the conflict with Ukraine began, it generally traded between 70 and 80 rubles in dollars.

It comes amid tough economic sanctions and the Russian government’s introduction of capital controls to try and stop the flow of money from Russia.

The Russian military began military operations in Ukraine on 24 February, three days after Moscow recognized the separate regions of Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, as independent republics, after “demilitarizing” and “rejecting” Ukraine. Announced for a “special military operation”.
