Washington (USA): Social media platform Twitter said on Saturday (local time) that its site was being banned in Russia amid tensions between Moscow and Kiev.

“We are aware that Twitter is being restricted to certain individuals in Russia and we are working to keep our service secure and accessible,” Twitter said in a post.

Earlier, Facebook banned Russian state media from running ads on the Russian military operation in Ukraine and monetizing the platform, said Nathaniel Gleicher, the social network’s head of security policy.

“We are now prohibiting Russian state media from running ads or monetizing our platform anywhere in the world. We continue to apply the label to additional Russian state media as well. These changes have already started and continue over the weekend. Will stay,” Gleicher said. In a tweet.

The security policy states that the company is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and will continue to share steps being taken to protect people on its platform. (ANI)
