Rwazi kills two birds with one stone with its data collection platform


Joseph Rutakangwa envisioned collecting on-site data directly from consumers living across Africa to obtain the purest and most accurate data on their consumption patterns. Today he is the co-founder and CEO of Rwazi, a company that does just that.

By building a network of young Africans across the continent, Rwazi has been able to gather valuable information that can be used by organisations, businesses and institutions to better understand local consumer psychology and how to optimize their services or products to meet the needs of consumers people to serve public better.

The company has amassed over 20,000 local consumers, known as mappers, all of whom are literate and have access to the internet so they can update the database with live updates.

What started as a means of gathering information has evolved into a network that offers various companies the opportunity to access hard-to-access data from growing markets. Rwazi recently joined a collaboration with Kuishi Smart to receive health data from Central Africa and a platform to connect patients, doctors and pharmacists.

Data is becoming increasingly valuable to the way businesses work. By receiving data directly from consumers, businesses can better understand their preferences, budgets, spending, motivations, and movements to make changes to their products or services to better meet the needs of their existing and potential customers. Rwazi data has also been used by financial services companies, who can now launch incentives, new offers and optimize their products based on the data they receive directly from entrepreneurs, employees and other earners

“Reducing unemployment has always been one of my goals and I wanted to achieve that with Rwazi. By creating gigs that anyone with a general education can do, data collection gigs contribute to society and help businesses grow, and we’ve already brought more than 20,000 young Africans into the labor market.” Rwazi’s founder explains, “Although the ultimate goal is to create 10 million gigs by 2025, which means that while we are constantly adding new mappers to our network, we also provide our mappers with resources so they can use their gig earnings to grow their careers or entrepreneurial ventures “.

To facilitate this program, the company invested in KrediblePro, a startup that matches and verifies references. Their collaboration will open up employment opportunities for Rwazi mappers as companies will be able to hire from the pool of qualified candidates in Rwazi’s database.

The data market opportunity in Africa is a huge opportunity in itself, but Rwazi won’t stop there. The company has also expanded into India, where over 3,000 mappers have joined the platform in the last three months. In addition, the company has launched pilot projects in Latin America, starting with Colombia.

Developing countries often do not rank very highly when it comes to implementing modern technologies, which means that many institutions and organizations that need data from these countries cannot obtain it. Rwazi is the link between the modern and developed world and the developing countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America.
