Samajwadi Party returns in Mainpuri with Dimple Yadav victory in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s stronghold

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Dimple Yadav on Thursday won the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh by a landslide with 6,18,120 votes.

With this victory, the Samajwadi Party’s rule since 1996 continues. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav dislodged the Janata Party’s hold on Mainpuri and came to power in the constituency.

According to official figures, the Mainpuri constituency is dominated by the Yadav community, followed by Shakya Brahmins, SCs and Muslims.

If experts are to be believed, Dimple has gained power from her community, which is a dominant figure in the field. Using the same logic, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also fielded a candidate from the Shakya community, which has a strong support base.

Close race with BJP

In the Mainpuri seat, SP’s biggest rival was the saffron party with a majority in the Lok Sabha. Despite having the most MLAs in the state assembly, the BJP remained in a close contest with the SP.

Winning the Mainpuri seat is quite significant for the SP as the constituency was a Samajwadi Party stronghold. However, this will only boost SP’s morale in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The SP accused the BJP of using the police to send away Muslim voters

The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday alleged that in several constituencies where elections are being held today, the police are acting as “agents of the Bharatiya Janata Party” by beating up Muslim voters.

The Samajwadi Party shared several videos on its Twitter account and alleged that the BJP was pulling strings to prevent the Muslim population from voting.
