The Ukrainian military has claimed that Russia violated the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine in the past 24 hours.
Ukraine’s military said on its Facebook page that it had recorded 96 incidents of firing by Russian-backed separatists in the past 24 hours. There were 84 such incidents a day back. Ukraine’s military said Russian-backed separatist forces had used heavy artillery, mortars and rockets.
Ukraine has accused Russia of inciting violence in eastern Ukraine on the pretext of formally gaining independence from the Russian-dominated regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.
Many countries have taken a tough stand against Russia
Significantly, many countries have imposed sanctions on Russia. Countries like the US, Japan, Britain, Germany and Canada have imposed sanctions on Russia. US President Joe Biden has said that Russia will not be able to continue receiving financial aid from the West.
“We are imposing sanctions on two of Russia’s biggest financial institutions, the VEB and the Military Bank,” Biden said.
Biden has also announced sanctions against Russia’s top diplomats and their families.
Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Wednesday that his government would ban the issuance and distribution of Russian government bonds in Japan. Britain has also announced sanctions against five Russian banks and three billionaires.
