Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday extended the COVID-19 restrictions till January 31 to contain the transmission of the virus.
According to the order of the state government, people will not be allowed to go to all places of worship between January 14 and January 18. The state government also said that special inter-district buses for Pongal would be allowed to ply only up to 75 per cent. by seating capacity.
Night curfew in the state will continue till January 31 and will be effective from 10 pm to 5 am from Monday to Saturday. The complete lockdown will remain in force on January 16 (Sunday), except for essential services.
The state government’s direction comes after Chief Minister MK Stalin chaired a meeting earlier in the day to review the COVID-19 and omicron situation across Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu on Monday reported 13,990 new COVID-19 cases, 2,547 recoveries and 11 deaths. Active cases are 62,767. (ANI)
