Telangana sees single-day spike in Omicron cases, 12 test positive for new COVID-19 variant


New Delhi: Telangana witnessed a huge surge in the cases of Omicron, with 12 people testing positive for the new variant of COVID-19. The state’s tally has increased to 20.

The state health department’s bulletin said that out of the 12 new omicron cases in Kerala, two were travelers from countries that are listed “at risk” by the Centre, while 10 came from “non-risk”.

The genome sequencing reports of three others are awaited.

Telangana on Saturday reported 185 new cases, including one death due to COVID-19. The state government’s health bulletin said the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) alone reported 78 cases, followed by 15 patients in Medchal Malkajgiri district who tested positive for the virus.

So far, 6,79,430 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state, taking the overall death toll to 4,014. The number of active cases in the state is 3,761.

205 patients recovered from COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the cumulative recoveries so far to 6,71,655.
