“Look, I don’t think being the captain of South Africa is easy. There are many dynamics that you need to manage, I think for me cricket has to be the main focus among the guys. It has been a challenging period for the team, especially the management members. There has been a lot of scrutiny around the team. This has been the biggest challenge for me, to manage the conversations that happen inside the changing rooms and to make sure that our energy is focused on performance,” Bavuma said during a virtual press conference.
Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen put on 124 and 52 as South Africa scored 287 runs on the board. Famous Krishna came back with three wickets for India.
Fifties from Virat Kohli (65), Shikhar Dhawan (61), and Deepak Chahar (54) went in vain as India suffered a four-run defeat against South Africa in the third and final ODI at Newlands in Cape Town. With this win, the Proteas won the ODI series 3–0.
Yes, I enjoy captaincy and it has its benefits, it has shown me its performance. Captaincy involves a lot of thinking and with that thinking your own performance also shines. I am always trying to assess the situations and counter those situations,” Bavuma said.
“For me, this ODI series against India wins a lot as a player. Watching the series and knowing that I have contributed significantly to the win, makes it a lot better. To assure India, Speaks a lot. Things are still early in my career. From a leadership standpoint, I will try not to get ahead of myself,” he said.
