Tension prevails in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district over targeted killings

Islamabad: One person was killed and another injured by unidentified men in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, making this the second incident of targeted killing in a month in the district.

According to the news of Dawn newspaper, the incident took place on Tuesday near Sadda town of Kurram tribal district. The victims were on their way from Parachinar to Peshawar. Mobile phone service and internet were snapped in the district after the attack.

This was the second incident of targeted killing in Kurram. Earlier on June 15, a car was attacked in Topaki village of lower sub-division of the district. Two others, including local peace council president Momin Khan, were killed while another person was injured.

After the murder of the Speaker, a video went viral on social media in which derogatory remarks were made. Meanwhile, General Officer Commanding Major General Aaqib Iqbal held a meeting with the elders at Parachinar on Monday and discussed the prevailing situation.

Officials said that the meeting of the local elders with the GOC was canceled after the attack on the car near Sadda. Pakistan has been witnessing a tide of violence in recent months.

In addition, unidentified persons opened fire on Pakistani policemen posted in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, killing one policeman and injuring three. Police sources said they were on routine duty in the lower Chitral area of ​​the province when the incident took place, Xinhua news agency reported.

“Police tried to stop a vehicle at the check post when its occupants ran away after firing at them, killing one policeman and injuring three others,” sources said.

Sources said that three people were in the vehicle, out of which two have been identified during the investigation process and search is on for them, while the third is yet to be identified. The injured policemen have been admitted to a nearby hospital and their condition is stable, sources said.
