Thakur, Kharge extends greetings on National Press Day


New Delhi: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday extended his warm wishes to the media fraternity on the occasion of National Press Day.

In a tweet, Thakur said, “This is a day to reaffirm our collective commitment to responsible journalism without fear or favour.”

“I expect the media to play an increasingly constructive role in our democracy,” said the minister.

Sharing Mahatma Gandhi’s quote – “Freedom of the press is a precious privilege that no country can renounce”, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge extended his best wishes to members of the press and media.

“The media is the protector and enabler of democratic institutions, and this difficult task includes — no fear, no favors,” he said.

“A free press is the bedrock of a healthy democracy,” said Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. The operation of the press with pro-people values, honesty and ethics helps the nation flourish, he added.
